Mayer July has recreated the lost world of the Jewish Polish shtetl, so that we can see and understand the unique charm of this lost world. As a Yiddish speaker myself, filmmaker and artist/historian, raised by Holocaust survivors, I greatly appreciate the nuance and cultural specificity in his witty and vivid paintings.
