Fourth of July Weekend

On the Fourth of July we went up to our country house to see my Grandparents and I brought my Raymond DVD's with me which my Grandparents totally love! They love Raymond so much that my Grandpa sometimes puts funny lines from the show under my plate at the table. This weekend at breakfast it was, "you creepeth me out." I couldn't stop laughing because I knew the episode really well. He also put a five dollar bill under my placemat which was great!

Here is another clip from Raymond that I love

Sam's Club Graduation Celebration

Last night, a bunch of my friends came over to celebrate my graduation with me. Some of them weren't able to make it to the actual graduation, so it was really great to see them, and to show them the video of my ceremony and speech. Natan, Cathy and Martin got me a beautiful leather bag from Italy. Rachel got me a couple of cool gift cards, Kate gave me a Strand gift certificate and book-box... and lots of other people have given me such amazing presents for my graduation! Anyway, this was the best Sam's Club ever, even though some people couldn't make it. IMG_2246IMG_2260IMG_2258IMG_2257IMG_2249IMG_2267IMG_2235IMG_2236IMG_2238IMG_2245IMG_2265IMG_2253

Graduation

Last Thursday I graduated from High School.  Everybody loved my speech. They all thought it was amazing.  I also really loved Amanda's speech. In it she said the only reason that she came to Winston was so that we could stay together.  She also said that she learned a lot from Winston and it ended up being the right school for her.  My other friend Perry gave a great speech, she thanked all our teachers since we were in the same classes together.  Mr. Moran acknowledged and honored me and Perry for being so courageous and brave.  It was a huge surprise for both of us, because we weren't expecting it at all.  Perry's family hosted an amazing celebration for all of us at this great seafood restaurant called BLT fish.  That was a day I will never ever forget.  IMG_1754 IMG_1755IMG_2151IMG_2157IMG_2169IMG_2165 IMG_1779IMG_1792IMG_1796IMG_1799IMG_0210IMG_0215IMG_0226IMG_0232IMG_0218IMG_2171 IMG_2195

Housing Works

Today Kate and I went to Housing Works, and I bought a very rare book called "Mistress Spitfire", by J.S. Fletcher.  It was written in 1896.  I like it because the design is very unique, and the story is very good so far.  I like older rare books because they are so hard to find and they're much fancier than the ones today. This morning was my interview for my internship at SPOTS.  It went really well.IMG_2133IMG_2134IMG_2136

Last Few Days

Over the last few days, I've been really busy so I haven't had time to update my blog.  On Wednesday I went to graduation rehearsal.  Graduation is being held at the Joyce Theatre on west 19th street.  Some of us are giving speeches, but some don't want to.  I'm giving a speech and so are Amanda and Perry and Lizzie and Sarah, and a bunch of other people as well.  Today we went to see the documentary "Pressure Cooker", and I thought it was great.  It made both me and Kate cry it was so good.  I can't wait for this weekend, because it's the first time that I''m going to see my grandparents since last summer!!!!!!!!IMG_2060

On Monday, Paula came by to help me get ready for my interview at SPOTS.

On Tuesday, Kate and I wanted to go to the New Museum but it was closed.

Before we went to the Joyce for our rehearsal, we got our Winston yearbooks!

Rehearsal was a lot of fun, but also hard work. We were there for three and a half hours.

Before we went to the movies today, we went to this huge bookstore called Strand, which has so many used and rare books. They also have new books. I like it because it's not too expensive.

Guys And Dolls

I had an amazing weekend with my parents.  For the first half, we went to our country house up in Elizaville.  Then on Sunday my mom and I went to see "Guys and Dolls" with Lauren Graham on Broadway, then after the show we went to the stage door and I got to meet Lauren Graham and got her autograph and picture taken with her!IMG_1744IMG_1746IMG_1749IMG_1752IMG_1752IMG_2048

Drawings

Today I went to school for focus.  When Kate and I came home we decided to draw and listen to music. She interviewed me while I sketched, but the video clip was too long to upload, so I'm just showing my sketches.  The sketches that I drew are patterns with different colors and shapes.  I like to use colored pencils instead of markers, because they're easier to hold unlike markers which are too big for me.  We tried making different shapes out of pieces of paper, but it was kind of boring so I went back to sketching.  Hope you like the drawings. Some of them are from a while ago, but some of them are from today. IMG_2008IMG_2009IMG_2010IMG_2021IMG_2028IMG_2030

A Gray Day In New York

I wrote some thank you cards to my teachers at Winston Prep, because it's very gloomy outside which makes it a good day to write thank you notes.  Kate wanted to take pictures of some of the "characters" around our house and asked me to write a little bit about them.  I don't remember where each object comes from, but I'm really used to living with them.  I thought that you'd like these pictures.  IMG_1976I think our friends Eric and Diana gave us this from Mexico.  I like the way it's shaped and colored.

I don't really remember who gave this to us, but I think it's a puppet.

This might also might be from Mexico.  It reminds me of riding on a motorcycle, which I did last summer at camp.

These are some of my favorite dolls.  The one in the pink sweater is Kit Kittredge (an American Girl Doll), the one in the yellow sweater is Gabriella from High School Musical 3.  The one with the straw hat was a gift from my first godmother, Annette.

Here are a few others...

A Day At The Met

Today Kate and I went to the Metropolitan Museum Of Art.  We saw a lot of beautiful sculptures, tapestries, stained glass, paintings, and ancient household objects.  We also saw parts of a temple, called The Temple of Dendur .  The first place we visited when we got there was the roof, where there was a little cafe bar and an amazing stainless steel sculpture by Roxy Paine. You can watch a video of the installation here. These are some of the pictures we took while we were there. I'll write more about it tomorrow. IMG_1916

I really love this sculpture because it's kind of crazy and looks like humongous silver branches that fell from the sky. I think people should check it out, because it's unique and interesting.

IMG_1922IMG_1908

It was such a beautiful day to have a picnic lunch!

IMG_1910

The roof deck has a great view. You can see so much of the city from up there.

IMG_1931 IMG_1925

The American Wing is incredible. I felt like I was not in New York, when I was in this part of the museum. It also felt like a different time period, because all the artwork is from so long ago.

IMG_1935IMG_1933

The stained glass windows are some of my favorite pieces at the museum, they are so beautiful.

There was a xylophone at the museum gift shop that I liked a lot. You can watch me playing it if you click the link. Download MVI_1947

Day After Prom

I had such an amazing time last night with Lily.  Lily, Amanda, and I all danced to Breaking Free which was a lot of fun.  We took so many pictures which I'm going to post on my blog and I hope you really like them.  Kate helped me get ready by doing nails and toenails and she also straightened my hair.  IMG_1692IMG_1703

My Dad kept on teasing me about going to the prom, but I knew that he was just as excited as I was.

Amanda decided to dye her hair purple for the prom! I thought both Perry and Amanda's dresses were amazing.IMG_1718

Yesterday I got highlights for prom and graduation at The Cutting Room.  They are extremely nice there and always do a great job, here are some pictures that Kate took.IMG_1661IMG_1665IMG_1673

Next Chapter Of My Life

So, on Thursday I'm going to my Senior Prom which is going to be on a boat.  I'm going with my cousin Lily, and a lot of my friends will be there with me.  June 11th is my High School Graduation, and Soraya and Alla are going to be at the ceremony, along with Kate and my parents.  This is my last week of school, which is a little weird because I've always been in school.  I'm writing a final essay on my eight years at Winston, and what it's been like for me.  It's weird to think about all the stuff I've done while I've been at Winston, like being in so many plays, making new friends, and taking classes with such amazing teachers.  I'm really going to miss Winston, but I'm also looking forward to next year.  One thing I'd like to do is upload more videos onto youtube, and keep my blog up to date, so stay posted!  In my next post, I'll include  pictures from my prom.  I'm extremely excited about all this!!!!!!!!

Highlights from my trip to L.A.

I finally got to go to L.A. in March, with a bunch of my friends from school and camp.  We had an amazing time.  Our group was called Kids Of Courage, and all of our counselors and doctors were super nice.  My favorite day was when we went to Universal Studios and took the tour.  We also went to Sea World and Disneyland.  After we came back from Universal Studios, we went to a barbecue, and I got an Academy Award for being "The World's Greatest Superstar"!  This is a trip I'll never forget, and here are some of my favorite pictures from it. I'm also including a short movie (a chapter from a longer movie) about me getting ready to go.Download SAMANTHALAND

Sam's 20th Birthday

These are some of my pictures from my birthday party.  I turned twenty this year, on Feb 8th, and the party was so much fun.  I had at least twenty people over at my house, it was so amazing to see all my friends and family together.  I got some great gifts, and got to catch up with a lot of my old friends who I haven't seen in such a long time.  P1020730P1020734P1020759P1020762IMG_1305P1020743IMG_1348IMG_1362

Samantha votes for Obama!

SamvotingIt was so exciting that it was my first time voting in a presidential election.   My parents told everybody that I voted for the first time, which was a little embarrassing for me.  I can't believe that we are going to have an African American president.  I'm really happy that Obama won.

Brooklyn Day!

As part of my B-day present, Alla promised me a day in Brooklyn, because she lives there and because one of my favorite stores-TARGET- is really close to where she lives. We waited this long for Brooklyn Day, because I was really busy with school, and we were waiting for the perfect weather. Yesterday, Aug. 20th was the perfect day for such a great outing. We took a cab from Manhattan to Brooklyn, and I was really surprised at how fast it took us to get there. First, we went to Target and we looked around the store. I bought a cool CD called Radio Disney which has a bunch of my favorite singers on it. I also bought a very cute shirt and skirt, which I modeled for my parents when we got home. After Target, we went to McDonalds and then we walked to Alla's apartment, which was really close. Alla's doorman, Bryan, made fun of her because he said that she goes to Target every day. Alla tried to deny this. I believe Bryan. We had lunch, and then we watched a movie called P.S. I love you. It's a romantic comedy, but it's also a tearjerker. I would give it 4/5 stars. After the movie, it was home sweet home! I enjoyed my Brooklyn Day with Alla!

Hospital Stay

April 21, 2008 I had to go into the hospital at NYU Medical Center because I had to change medications to control seizures  I have been having. Even though I hate being in the hospital and hooked up to all this equipment, people there were really nice, and lots of friends visited me which madeit much more fun.
Check out my photo album where you can see all the people who came http://samanthamyers.typepad.com/photos/hospital_stay_2008/, plus the nurse Jennifer who brought me such a cool necklace on Saturday, right before I left.Img_1378_2

Sync or Swim!!

On Saturday, March 14, my mom and I went to a fundraiser for a totally great documentary film, Sync or Swim, by our friend Cheryl Furjanic. We danced (it was a dance-a-thon). We bought a lot of raffle tickets and I won
an autographed copy of Entertainment magazine signed by Jake Gylenhaal! Here I am after I won.
Check out the pictures of the dancers and don't forget to check out the film!!

The New York Times Once Again Ignores Important Issues

Recently a comrade, Samantha Myers, submitted this wonderful letter to The New York Times and they didn’t have the wisdom to publish it.  But here it is on Disability Culture Watch.
